Inspired by the movie Julie and Julia, I finally decided to start our blog. So, here I go…
I have just found out some very exciting news.
For the past ten years, the military has talked about implementing chiropractic care into the system. They have done some trial applications, some active duty and reserve, but nothing to the degree that I would like to see it implemented. As a former Air Force Officer, I hold this concern close to my heart. I know the impact of military stresses on the active duty service member and his/her family. Not only that, but in practice, Dr. B and I have run into several active duty/veteran servicemen/women who have wanted to participate in chiropractic care, but weren’t able to afford it. And for years, we have had to tell them that the military is working on it.
On May 24, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 1017, “The Chiropractic Available to All Veterans Act.” The bill was approved 365:6. What a major victory, just in time for Memorial Day. According to the Library of Congress, this bill requires the VA to have doctors of chiropractic on staff for no fewer than 75 medical centers by December 31, 2010 and for all VA medical centers by December 31, 2012. It “includes chiropractic examinations and services within required VA medical, rehabilitative, and preventive health care services.”
The American Chiropractic Association, “believes that the inclusion of chiropractic care in the VA health care system would speed the recovery of many of the veterans returning from current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.” I believe this is true physically, but mentally, as well.
We had a veteran patient in our Kansas City practice who suffered from Agent Orange and had high blood pressure for over 30 years. After a few months of care, his blood pressure was normal without his medications. It’s little miracles like these, that I can’t wait to see happen to the people that dedicate their lives for our freedom!
I hope the Millennium Cohort Study, the largest prospective health project in military history, will update its questionnaire with questions about chiropractic care and the results one has seen after participating in chiropractic care. I know they will see a major difference over the next ten years in physical and medical health of our vets with this amazing victory!
So, for all our Orange County and Tustin Veterans, Active Duty, or Reserve Service Members, we would like you to get a head start on your chiropractic care. For the month of June, Fountain of Life Family Chiropractic in Tustin, CA, will be offering you and your family a complimentary initial exam, chiropractic consultation, and Doctor’s report. Just give us a call at 714.665.9355 and mention the key phrase “Holly, Off we go into the wild, blue yonder!”
If you are reading this and know of a vet, active duty, or reservist, who could use our help, please let them know about this special offer. It’s our way of giving back to our Tustin Community! Even though Memorial Day is a time to honor those who served overseas, and lost their life in military service, it’s still appropriate to extend appreciation to those who risk/(ed) their lives for our freedom! So, don’t forget to thank a vet for their service, whether its through a phone call, Facebook wall post, or Twitter update. Trust me, they will appreciate it!
I would personally like to thank some of my military cohorts:
- First and foremost, my father, James Kobolt, the person that rendered me my first salute as an Officer.
- My Grandpa Bob and Grandpa Max, both looking down from heaven! I wish I could leave flowers for you guys tomorrow!
- Col Carpenter, my first mentor on active duty who stuck by my side even when I went against the military on the vaccine issue.
- Col Richardson, a wealth of support during my fight against the military justice system
- Capt Rieder (most likely a Col by now) my attorney who helped me through thick and thin in my beliefs about vaccines and the military
- Sgt Galilei for assisting Capt. Rieder and I for 1 1/2 years to fight for my rights
- Chief Santos, Chief Durkee, SMSgt Peel, Pereira, Sgt Kas, and many more for support from the enlisted side of the house!
- Josie M. and Desirae D. for being partners in crime in different stages of my military career! Love you ladies! Yours Truly, Holly
